Honk If You Love Somebody
This seemed like a perfect Monday post, especially the first Monday of the New Year. Moreover, I’ve decided to start a new category for the New Year, named simply “Good!” and placed in the Living Well section.
Why? Because I think it’s so incredibly easy to feel somewhat overwhelmed by all the bad news that surrounds us – on the television or internet, at work or in the community, maybe even at home. In fact, sometimes it feels like is about all the gets featured in the media and we get so used to it that we don’t even notice how it’s sucking our energy and diminishing our vision. And so from time to time, when I come across a video or news item about someone who is doing something good, I want to feature it here.
And this seemed like a great place to start. Because what I particularly love about this 5-minute video is Massoud’s sense of the power of a simple gesture. Make a few signs, take time to show them to folks flying by as they start their day, and see what good might come of it. No big deal, but with a surprisingly big payoff.
Which puts me to thinking: what little thing could I do today to make someone else’s day just a bit better? And what little thing could you do? Not flashy, not expensive, not hugely time consuming – just some small thing that you or I could do to make a difference. And what would our world be like if we all starting doing these simple things?
Have a great Monday! (And, if you think of it, do some good!)
Notes: 1) If you are receiving this post, you may need to click here to watch the video.
2) Thanks to Dan Pink for calling this to my attention.
Why can’t I download your videos?
Hi, Jack.
I’m not sure! Every once in a while the videos I post disappear from the post. That happened with this one so I just re-posted it.
If you can’t view them from the emails, click the link and (assuming they haven’t disappeared!) you should be able to view it on the blog.
Thanks for checking in!
Whew. Thought I was going nuts. I’m a recent subscriber and each time I’ve tried to watch a video I must have caught one of those ‘every once in a whiles’. So if I can’t click on a video in the future I shall tap your shoulder…
Actually, they often don’t play from the email – I’m not sure why. In those cases, click the link beneath the video, and if that still doesn’t work, head over to the site. Shouldn’t happen often, I hope!
Hey Niemi — how are you doing? Great to see your name again.
Must be a monday thang David
but you’re titling Luke as John here and i cant find anywhere to click for the video… (which could be me)

I’m going to share this with the confirmation kids; and especially the middle schoolers (not members of my church) who show up on Wednesdays. Could be a great discussion starter! Thanks!
Love the video! Thanks, brother…
Always look forward to IN THE MEANTIME, and Good is such a fine addition. You might like this TED talk in the same vein: “Israel and Iran: A love story?”
HONK!
Hi David,
I’m honking! As a pastor I often does anyone get the message. Does anyone hear the sermon, or read the newsletter? I just want to let you know that I am honking. I have read what you wrote and I get it. My day is better because of what you have brought me and because of that maybe someone else will have a better day because of me. Thanks,
Pastor Patrick Ziems
