Education Revolution
Here is the second post on the problems with our schools, problems that arise not from our teachers or students but the larger system in which our teachers and students live. Ken Robinson was invited to address the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce (RSA) on the changing paradigms in education. His address, nearly an hour, can be found at the following link. Below, however, I’ve posted a cleverly animated – and greatly edited – 11 minute version that captures the heart of his talk. Again, I’d invite you to consider the implications for the way we educate our children and grandchildren to meet a changing and challenging world, and I’d encourage you to share it with others interested in education.

Thanks for the series of videos on education. I’ve forwarded these along to our local school board member who is a retired band leader, so he can think outside of the box. Our school board just sent a resolution to the State of Texas protesting the newest standardized test–mostly because of the expense and confusion over implementation of the new test, but hopefully these videos will help us think broader than throwing out just the standardized test.
As an aside, we have a dyslexic child who has difficulties with conventional school but can be quite creative. Our challenge is to figure out how to keep that creativity while helping him survive his education. Answer: lots of prayer!
