Luther and the Reformation in Greater Depth

Today, rather than our usual Wednesday TED Talk, two videos from the Khan Academy, a collection of educators, artists, and professionals from a variety of disciplines that construct and post videos for free for anyone who wants to watch and learn. I’ll post more on the Kahn Academy next week, but for now I want briefly to introduce these two videos as we continue our commemoration of the Reformation.

The first video one sets the context for the Reformation, introducing us to Luther’s world and to Luther. The second one delves into the Reformation itself, particularly as it centered around Luther, explaining the historical context and identifying the key theological points.

If you know anything about the Khan Academy, you won’t be surprised that these videos are simple, visually enjoyable, well done, and incredibly informative. Hosted by Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, both video presentations assume an audience that knows next to nothing about the medieval church, German history, or technical theological terms. Which means they are incredibly accessible, immensely helpful and perfect for most church-going folks today! 🙂

So, by all means, watch them – they are 8 and 11 minutes respectively – share them, learn from them. It’s a great story, one we’re invited not just to know about but continue.
