Ohio State Thriller
‘Tis the season of high school and collegiate football matches. (Indeed, my loyalties will be tested sorely this weekend as the Nittany Lions of Penn State venture to chilly Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota.) And along with the contest on the gridiron is another festivity not to be missed: the half-time show countless marching bands put on each Saturday afternoon. The Unionville-Chadds Ford School where my children now attend has an awesome marching band, and it’s been fun throughout the late summer and fall to hear them practice from outside our home just a mile away and to see them whenever we’ve been able. I’m always amazed by the precision and timing and sheer professional competence of the musicians. And so I thought as a kind of Friday delight I’d share this video of the Ohio State Marching band doing its tribute to Michael Jackson. Trust me, you’ll have never seen a moonwalk quite like this. It is, if you’ll pardon the obvious reference, a thriller. (And if you can’t spare the 11 minutes of the video, you can slip in at about 4:00 to catch the moonwalk.)
Have a great weekend. And, “Go _______________! (And, no, I’m not revealing who I’m rooting for. 🙂 But perhaps you can fill in the blank of your favorite team wherever they may be playing.)

Spectacular! Thanks, David. As a “band parent” for eight years while our two daughters were in high school, we watched many a band show and were always impressed with the discipline, love, and community present in the band. It was a place of acceptance, welcome, and striving – characteristics we might emulate as the band of disciples we call the church!
