Kiva
I came across this video in my inbox yesterday and thought I’d share it. Kiva is one of my favorite agencies and is doing incredibly important work not only to make the world a better place but also to connect people from different parts of the world in this effort. It is, in short, a micro-lending agency that invites people to make loans to entrepreneurs from impoverished countries to start and maintain their own businesses, in this way empowering people to become more self-sufficient. What’s fun for the lender is to be able to search out a person and project that you identify with – my daughter almost always chooses someone working with animals, for instance – and make a loan to support that project. When that loan is repaid (and 99% of them are!), you can loan again. (And, of course, you can give more and loan more at any time.)
I won’t say more, but instead just invite you to watch this short video – which is also a wonderful example of how to tell a story visually that is beautiful, brief, and compelling – and invite you to consider becoming part of their very good work.

2) Just to be clear: I have no formal relationship with Kiva beyond participating as a lender; I just love what they’re doing! 🙂
I also support and enjoy the work of Kiva. Thank you for giving them a plug.
So excited to see this! I was a Kiva Fellow in 2008 and worked with two of their partner microfinance insitutions in Kampala, Uganda. Having been on the ground, I can attest to the fact that they do a lot of good work.
