Something New… and Unplugged
Like most congregations around the country, we at Mount Olivet are trying to capture and share our worship online. We’re also trying to connect with our folks in a variety of ways, including via written and musical devotions, recording mid-week Lenten messages, and more. But in addition to trying to take what we normally do and put it online, this current crisis and challenge is also inviting us to try out some new things; in particular, to not simply adapt our usual content to the mediums available to us, but to also allow those various media and channels suggest different patterns of connecting (at least different for us). Here’s the latest, a series of videos with MO leaders sharing what’s on our hearts as we try to connect faith and life at this particular time. Named “Mount Olivet Unplugged,” it’s definitely inspired in part by the late 80s-90s MTV series of videos featuring a number of favorite musicians offering acoustic renditions of their classic songs.
I’ll say from the get-go that it’s not perfect — I feel like I’ve already learned a lot and look forward to adapting and evolving. But I strongly believe hat ongoing improvement is way better than delayed perfection! So we’ll keep at it.
If you have a minute (actually, 2 and a half), check it out and let me know what you think. More importantly — actually, way more importantly — share what you’ve been experimenting with and what you’re discovering. I’m a huge believe that there is no original idea, that we should all “steal like an artist” :), and we should be inspired by each other’s successes and learn from each other’s missteps. Wherever you are and whatever you’re trying, keep the faith!
David

From the webpage we’ve put together during the pandemic — Together @ Mount Olivet:
Welcome to the first of a series of videos with Mount Olivet leaders called “Mount Olivet Unplugged”! We’re hoping to use this space and time to, well, just be ourselves, share our thoughts about the life of faith we share, and encourage you in your spiritual walk. These videos are not meant to be polished, perfect, or overly profound. But then again, we believe in a God who doesn’t demand we are polished, perfect, or overly profound either! Enjoy, let us know what you think, and know that we are praying with you and for you.

Thanks for reminding us of what church is all about and what God expects from us especially during these, “stay at home” days, months, years(God forbide). I am running out of things to do so yesterday I decided to count the number of times I inadvertently touched my face. Within two hours, I was at 38 times so I loss interest and gave up!
Thanks for this example Dr. Lose. We too have been using a lot of Livestreaming. My staff have also been taking turns so that the members can still hear their voices and learn from their struggles and thoughts as well. We are also starting a “Radio Show” podcast of sorts in which we are inviting people to send in talking point questions for us to weekly take on. The questions are already flowing, and what really excites me is that this week’s number one question is, “How do I actually start reading the Bible?” If this virus has done anything for us, it is encouraging people to use their time and their faith wisely. God’s blessings in your work!
