What Christmas is All About
Fifty years ago Charles Schulz somehow managed to convince TV execs to break all the rules – no laugh track, the use of children’s voices only, a sober message critical of commercialization, a long and unaccompanied reading of the Bible at the climax of the show – to produce “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Given what has transpired since, Schulz’s concern about he commercialization of Christmas seems almost quaint. In truth, it turns out he was simply prescient…and perhaps prophetic, never more so than in the seven minutes of that television spectacle captured below. Amid the hustle and bustle of the season, perhaps you’ll have time to listen to Charlie Brown anxious plea and Linus’ wise retreat to the bare words of the story to be reminded what Christmas is all about. Blessed Christmas.

Thank you, Charles Schulz, for a reminder that has reached millions of hearts. And thanks, David, for reminding us again.
David, I didn’t see this post prior to Christmas, but I was thinking along the same lines, to the point I actually showed/played a slightly longer version of Linus’s reading of Luke via the DVD during our Christmas Eve service. To offer greater insight into what Charles Schulz faced in 1965 when challenged to create “A Charlie Brown Christmas” view “A Christmas Miracle: The making of A Charlie Brown Christmas”. It truly was a miracle that the show was ever shown on national TV. I’ve listed the You Tube link below for the mentioned video.
Blessings to all in the New Year.

Someone pointed out to me recently that when Linus is reciting Luke, when he says, The angel says, Fear not, he drops his security blanket!
